Governance & Corporate Development
The Aboriginal Firefighters Association of Canada (AFAC) created the NIFSC to support Indigenous communities in building capacity to determine their own fire and safety needs. The AFAC has developed a strategic plan for the transition from the AFAC to the NIFSC, effective April 1, 2022, which includes the establishment of the inaugural NIFSC Board of Directors.
The inaugural NIFSC Board of Directors will consist of 17 board positions. Recruitment is underway for the three (3) representatives with specific subject manner expertise. These positions include (1) Emergency Management/Disaster Resiliency, (2) Emergency Medical Services, and (3) a Wildfire representative.
Interested parties are asked to submit a cover letters and resumes demonstrating their ability to perform the requirements outlined in the Board position of interest. Resumes should clearly identify which position the applicant is applying for and demonstrate their qualifications to perform that position.

What is a Governance Model?
A governance model refers to how an organization’s policies, systems, structures, and framework interact with each other, who maintains responsibility for them and who oversees decision making. This responsibility often lies with a Board of Directors.
